College Democrats of Illinois Calls Pro-Rauner Ad Sexist

ILLINOIS– The College Democrats of Illinois President Brexton Isaacs released the following statement regarding the Bruce Rauner ad put out by the College Republican National Committee targeting young women.

“The ad the College Republican National Committee put out yesterday supporting Bruce Rauner is incredibly sexist and insulting,” said College Democrats of Illinois President Brexton Isaacs. “Does Bruce Rauner really think that the only way to communicate with female voters is to compare important issues to wedding dresses? This ad just shows how out of touch Bruce Rauner is with young women in Illinois.”

College Democrats of Illinois is a chartered state federation of the College Democrats of America, the official youth arm of the Democratic Party. As a group representing collegiate Democrats across the state, the College Democrats of Illinois strives to educate students on Democratic values, promote advocacy in concert with student leaders' furthering of those values, and engage students with local, state and federal campaigns.

Background

MSNBC: The GOP’s most condescending ad yet
The College Republican National Committee thinks it has unlocked the key to speaking to young women about pending gubernatorial elections: Make it about pretty wedding dresses. That’s how the party is attempting to win over a demographic it has long struggled to attract.

Sun-Times: New ad urges women to 'Say yes to Bruce Rauner'
What better way to make your point than with a "Say Yes to the Dress" parody? That's exactly what a new ad from the College Republican National Committee is doing to urge people to vote for Republican gubernatorial candidate Bruce Rauner.

TIME: This Is the Most Sexist Republican Ad of the Year
In case there is any debate about whether 1) Republicans really want young women on board for the midterms and 2) they’re confused about how to do it, the College Republican National Committee ad for Rick Scott will settle the question once and for all… There’s also an identical ad running in Illinois, to endorse Bruce Rauner for Governor.
