PRESS RELEASE: 10 Technical Tendencies of Education

Educational Technology

Tablets, electronic books, “smart” watches; learning personalization, network education… Such words can be met in a lexicon of modern school teachers more and more often. Some of these technical devices and teaching technologies are already parts of the reality, some of them just have to prove their effectiveness in the field of common education.

Here is the list of 10 educational tendencies based on a technological progress.

School Gadgets

1. “Wearable” gadgets. For instance, “smart watches” or Google Glass. They look very promising according to their perspective of educational use. Teachers who base their classes on physical activity of pupils will be attracted by such smart watch functions as pulse, pressure and movement speed monitoring. Google Glass can visibly connect “virtual” knowledge with the real world thanks to the augmented reality technologies. This is the way to interest pupils, of course.

2. BYOD — Bring Your Own Device. Taking the popularity of smartphones and tablets among pupils into account, it is as natural to take the gadget to school as to take a pen and a copybook there. According to the research, workers who have modern devices at home expect technical level of their workplace to be at least not lower. The same thing can be told about school pupils: if a school can’t provide them with equipment they have at home, they take their gadgets with them. Is there a reason to forbid that or use it for good purposes?

3. Mobile Learning. According to the information by the IBM company, at the end of the year 2015 there were 3,4 billion users on the market of mobile devices (that means every second human on the planet). If to talk about the educational field, mobile apps with educational contents are extremely popular among the iTunes users. This means first, that users really want to gain knowledge, and second – that they are the ones who decide where and when to learn. This tendency can change traditional “localized” school studying significantly.

Online Interaction During Lessons

4. “Cloud” Technologies. More and more world schools prefer using “cloud” instruments, such as Google Classroom, Moodle, or Blackboard. Both teachers and pupils feel it comfortable to have the access to the educational resources at any place and time.

5. Social media turned from the places to publish photos and statuses to the working information exchange instrument long ago. Schools are mastering them gradually, too.

6. Openness and Visibility. Electronic journals and diaries, electronic learning materials and online courses allow more educational process participants not only to have a permanent access to the data, but to personalize the learning process for themselves as well.

“Hand” Made Job

Even despite the fact that educational field is getting more and more digitalized, there is still a place for the activities more complicated than manipulations with touchscreens in “offline” mode.

7. 3D-Printing Technologies. They are what can become the missing link demonstratively connecting digital information with real objects that can be touched. According to the opinion of the analytics, 3D printers are about to gain their wide spreading in educational fields pretty soon. Nowadays, some schools use engineering and laboratory technologies and devices offered by littleBits and EdTechTitans, for instance.

Individual Educational Technologies

8. Blended learning is not something new, but they still do not use it in all schools. Nevertheless, this technology had enough time to prove its effectiveness for learning individualization and increasing the level of independence among pupils. Thanks to the transfer of the “routine” part of studies to the electronic format, teachers can get more time to organize productive, researching and creative activities of pupils.

9. Distance learning is known as popular in business and higher education. The expansion of electronic learning in schools and a wide usage of distance learning technologies became noticeable within last few years. Online courses, trainers, instruments to create and publish them, LMS-systems that supply users not only with educational contents but with threads to organize learning process with a wide specialized instrument kit… they all become more and more wanted.

Gamification Learning

10. Gamification (active learning activity with game elements) allows students to memorize up to 90% of the information gained. Experts form 2015 prognosed this technology to become widely used in 2-3 years. It seems for them to be right till 2018.

Modern Education Technologies: It’s Your Call

Technical and technological inventions have already changed human’s everyday life and business processes. When hearing about the release of a new gadget, people are easy to abandon less perfect solutions and to start using the new ones in one-two days. Schools have to be more critical about the choice of new technologies, to provide researches and approbation.

While knowing about all the possibilities offered by tech world, schools and teachers look for things which are really able to improve the educational process significantly, not just to make that process more modern. But it is obvious that the educational system cannot last for long without technical and technological improvements brought by the progress.
